It’s the most wonderful time of the year! We reached out to our Dirt contributors (all 80+ of them) to find out what they are buying this holiday season. This is the first dispatch of our Dirt Gift Guide.
My friend Mickey Alice Kwapis is a taxidermist / jeweler / stained glass artist (among other things). Her invertebrate preservation kits have been a big hit with everyone I've nabbed them for. For those who may be into that same energy without getting their hands dirty, she does all kinds of commissions for jewelry and other objects.
Yvonne Martinez is a textile artist from Chicago who focuses on the types of images we collect and keep in our computers. The masterpiece Cat Barrel is unfortunately sold out, but BBQ Minis, Tater Cat, or DMing her for a commission are all still A+ options.
Upgrade your golf-head dad's Nike dry-fit situation with basically anything the boys at Whim are cooking up. The golf shirt's a no-brainer, and the caddie jackets are flexible enough for off-the-course wear.
Cristina Daura's art on La Causa and really lots of art at La Causa.
A font from Klim found on everything from Kinfolk's website to Pete Buttigieg's campaign to Malcolm Gladwell's Revisionist History logo to my website (hehe).
A cardholder from Yuni Yunan. Handmade in France from deadstock leather, with every color being a pocket for yet another card!
Copper serum from NIOD (the high-end line from The Ordinary's parent company) because we have to take care of our offline selves too. Also discounted for November.
Artist Pacifico Silano's book for those who want to give pics of gay porn without the risqué elements (he collages from vintage gay porn.)
I love to give people subscriptions, and, by me, the best kind is a subscription to a small press–not only is it a gift that keeps giving, it's also one that supports independent literature and spites Amazon. My personal favorites are Deep Vellum and And Other Stories, two translation-centered presses with cool, offbeat taste and impeccable book design. (I am biased toward Deep Vellum because I released a translation with them this year, but I was a fan long before, I swear!)
If you need to buy a gift for somebody in the UK or Europe, though, you can't do better than the Fitzcarraldo Fiction & Essays package–their books are as smart and chic as it gets.
A Greco Paper Vase from Octaevo.

A few years ago, if you were to ask me how I felt about the idea of giving a shiny sack of Lindt Lindor Truffles as a holiday gift, I would have made a "pssh" sound and dismissed said chocolates as basic and overexposed, like Anne Hathaway in 2013. But please hear me out: Lindor truffles are affordable abbondanza on a similar level to Ferrero Rocher, in that you get a lot of bang for your buck. Order a custom truffle mix from the Lindt website—or if you're lucky enough to live in a city with a Lindt outpost, go digging through the piles of lush metallic spheres in person—and you will be able to express your love and admiration via chocolate flavors like never before. Did you know Lindor has a Stracciatella flavor? What about coconut??
Any schmo can pick up one of those mass-produced Lindt gift bags in the checkout line of a big box store (you know, the ones that only have the most boring varieties) but it takes gumption to snag the custom mix, and I promise your effort will not go unnoticed by your beloveds. I'm sorry but I've never known anyone to turn down a Lindor truffle. Anne Hathaway was good in Les Misérables. My personal flavor recommendation: Dulce de Leche.
In these dark, winter months, we all want to snuggle up with our hygge: candles, blankets, hearty soups, surrounded by comfort. But what about feral cats? They don't really need candles but just a nice warm place to snuggle outside where they're safe and comfortable. The Kitty Tube is a secure, insulated, perfectly round and dark place for feral cat colonies to rest in comfort after a day running wild and trying to stay alive. You may know of some feral cats in your area and feed them and maybe even slapped together a makeshift hut. Kitty Tubes are solid, lined with styrofoam insulation and easily cleaned and managed. Sturdy enough to withstand the worst weather. They also don't have to be for feral cats too. Your own house cat might like one inside as a place to 'get away from it all' without having to take over your couch or mash the keys of your laptop.
If you know someone that loves hot lemon water, set an alert for this mug on ebay it’s basically my grail. Erie Basin in Red Hook (Brooklyn) has the most beautiful, unusual jewelry.
